Animal Boutiques Illustrations

2017

A series of illustrations based on the theme of shops. Gouache, watercolours, colour pencil and white gel pen on mixed media paper, tweaked in Photoshop.

Final outcomes from a project looking at shop names and business titles. From the starting point I looked at punny names for shops and imagined what these shops would provide and who would work in them. Taking inspiration from the popular children's toy line 'Sylvanian Families' I decided upon the fun angle of animal characters in their working lives. Combining the two with my favoured mediums of gouache, watercolours and colour pencil these series of stylised shop illustrations are the end result.

Illustration depicting a florist shop called 'Fluer-tations' (as a play on word for fluer/flower) with deer 'people' running the store.
A rabbit themed bakery illustration. The shop is called 'Hot Cross Bunnies'. Both shop workers and customers are rabbit people.
Illustration of a cat cafe called 'Feline Fancies'. A cat barista overlooks her patronage including a fox, a mouse and degu, all enjoying hot beverages.
An illustration of a book store called 'Night Bird Bookshop'. A squirrel customer asks the owner, a snowy owl, a question about a book.
Logo which reads 'AOI Member'. AOI stands for the Association of Illustrators.
