Fairytale Journey Concertina
2018

A 57 panel concertina narrative showing the journey of a young girl on a quest to discover the origins and evolution of the fairy tale, as produced for my dissertation artefact. Ink on watercolour paper, edited in Photoshop, hand bound  final concertina book.

Having a solid interest in storytelling I focused my dissertation on the oldest form of story that most people can relate to - the fairytale. Full of nostalgia for many people I wanted my accompanying artefact to reflect a wholesome feel, selecting black Indian ink to solely create my illustrations as many well renowned illustrators have done. I set myself the challenge of printing my work in a concertina format, folding and binding the full 57 pages by hand and finishing with a black and white fabric bound cover.

Various page spreads from the original concertina book 'Fairytale Journey'. Images depict a child walking through an enchanted woods following magical butterfly guides.
